Spotlight Camp - Kids Therapy Network

We recently did a great eblast/blog that showcased some of the top summer camps in Guelph. We loved learning about these camps and what they had to offer.

Sending your child off to day camp can be a little intimidating and parents want to know what the camp is all about before signing up. I think it is also important to pick the right kind of camp for your child. With so many wonderful options gone are the days when you get sent to the camp down the street at the school to be kept out of trouble (that is what happened to me). Or I remember teaching drama camp for years and so often there were kids sent to those camp who had absolutely no interest in drama. We are very lucky to have many incredible options.

I sat down with the owner Kids Therapy Network camp to learn more about her amazing camps and how she helps kids in Guelph.

Who is your camp geared to?

Our camps are geared to children with a variety of challenges including autism spectrum disorder, hyperactivity, gross or fine motor skill delays, mental health or anxiety disorders.

It is often very difficult to get a proper diagnosis for challenges. If your child struggles with attention and focus, writing and speaking skills for their age, social skills or dealing with change and stimulation, this is the camp for them.

What is unique about your camp?

Our camp programs are designed specifically to create safe and fun learning experiences for our campers. We help them learn many necessary skills and achieve things they’ve been frustrated with in the past, and we do it all through play, art, music and other fun experiences. These are holistic learning programs.

When and where does your camp take place?

Our programs are half day programs which take place at our clinic in Guelph, at 930 Woodlawn Rd West, Unit 11.

They run through July, for 5 days each. Kaleidoscope and kidsCAN from July 4-8, kidsCONNECT and kidsCREATE from July 11-15, Abracadabra and kidsSENSE from July 18-22

What do you think is the best part of your camp?

The benefit for the campers goes without saying, so I believe it is the affordability of the camps. Our camp programs are created by registered therapists specifically to engage and empower children who struggle with the skills they need for daily living.

Despite all the work and care taken by us to create the programs and to offer them, we keep the weekly cost quite low to ensure families can afford to send their children. The camp programs are offered at a fraction of the cost of our regular services.

One more thing we need to know about the camp

We also have a low ratio of children to camp leader (all registered therapists), only 5:1 so that each child receives as much care and attention as they need and does not become overwhelmed.
