Camp Spotlight - Brick Works Academy

Here is another amazing camp for kids who love LEGO and MINECRAFT and creating. I know my boys are just discovering the world of Minecraft and Lego but there are so many kids who love to build and create. The camp also gives kids a chance to play outside and participate in regular camp games as well, but they focus educating children in STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math through hands on PLAY which is always the best way for kids to learn. (When they do not know they are doing it)

I saw down with David Goodfellow the executive of Brick Works academy and asked him a few questions about this incredible camp.

Who is your camp geared to?

Brick Works Academy camps are aimed children ages 6 to 8 who are the curious, the builders, the designers, and the story tellers. What is unique about your camp?

We like to think of our camp as the alternative camp. Something different than a soccer camp, where the focus is on exercising our children's minds through creative problem solving. When and where does your camp take place?

Our camps are running in 8 locations in 5 Cities. For the Guelph community the closest location would be the Guelph Campus of Conestoga College at 460 Speedvale Ave West, Guelph. For families in South Guelph it may be easier for them to visit us in the east end of Cambridge at Townline Rd and the 401 at 520 Ellis Rd W, Cambridge. Camps are run weekly for 7 weeks starting July 4th and ending August 19th. What do you think is the best part of your camp?

The best part of camp for us is hearing the students and parents tell us how much their children love our camp, even students where camp has normally been a forbidden word at home. For the students the best part of camp is sharing their excitement to build and explore with Lego and Minecraft with new friends who share the same interests. Students light up when they get to share their discoveries with others. One more thing we need to know about the camp?

While we love ourcomputers and lego we also love going to the park and spending time out side. Every day weather allows we try to be outside for a minimum of an hour and a half play time. We have parachute games, soccer balls, and other traditional camp games. Hope to see you at camp this summer.
